For the founders, the establishment of the Operatives, or as it is more correctly known, the Worshipful Society of Free Masons, Rough Masons, Wallers, Slaters, Paviors, PlaisterersKansas City Historic Preservation Studies Center is the culmination of many years of studying and an allegiance to the teachings and core beliefs of HISTORIC PRESERVATION.
Possessing a deep, existential pride in history, gratification for this accomplishment is his greatest reward. With a background mired in the craft of masonry and historic preservation, the founders exhibit an enormous respect and ingrained passion for the histories of both masonry and preservation.

Historic preservation began with operative masons. The earliest Masonic texts contained partial histories of the craft and/or the mystery of masonry. Union masonry only emerged when it was deemed necessary to have a reputable notary employed as a secretary to record all important transactions.
Having made a full revolution to this present day in time, historic preservation must return to a reverence for it's beginnings, the operative sector. The founders exemplifies the type of leader that the forefathers of building envisioned for today's craft
